Arsenal are “unlikely” to pursue a move for Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel before the transfer window shuts, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The journalist, who is usually reliable when it comes to transfers, says the Gunners have cooled their interest after initial enquiries:
“Arsenal are unlikely to follow up their interest in Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel as things stand. They explored the conditions of a deal in this transfer window.”
“Sky in Germany report that Bayern are insisting on a loan with an obligation or a permanent deal. Arsenal will work until the final seconds to try and improve the squad on Deadline Day.”
Arsenal don’t want to commit themselves to signing the player
With Bayern said to be insisting on including an obligation to buy in any loan deal, it appears that Mikel Arteta’s side have decided that they don’t want Tel on a permanent basis.
That is not a complete surprise, considering that it was reported at the weekend that the Gunners are now planning to make a move for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko at the end of the season.
With Tel likely to cost £50m, it would have reduced the club’s ability to go after Sesko as well.
Where could Tel go instead?
Some would assume that the 19-year-old may end up going to another Premier League club if Arsenal do withdraw from the race for his signature.
However, Sky have revealed that Manchester United have also decided against a move for Tel, while he has already turned down Tottenham. Chelsea, meanwhile, opted to end their interest last week. At the time of writing, it appears that the teenager will remain in Germany until the end of the season, barring any late twists.
