Arsenal have reportedly received competition from Man United to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha.
The Gunners were heavily linked to Cunha in the January transfer window, and are expected to sign a striker in the summer window due to the lack of depth at the position.
Arsenal saw injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus this season, leaving Mikel Arteta to play midfielder Mikel Merino up front despite that not being close to his natural position.
Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as the frontrunner for the Gunners since they signed new Sporting Director Andrea Berta, but they could recapture their interest in Cunha if they see him as a viable option.
However, according to new reports, Arsenal are set to face competition to sign the Brazilian attacker. TalkSPORT report this week that Man United are keen to sign the Wolves star as Ruben Amorim looks to improve his squad in the summer transfer window.
Cunha has been one of the better players in the Premier League this season, scoring 13 goals in 26 league games – averaging one goal every two games for Wolves, something that no Arsenal player has managed this season. The report also says that he has a £62m release clause in his contract that he signed at Molineux in January.
Cunha revealed he wants to challenge for Premier League titles
The Wolves striker decided not to leave in the January window as he wanted to help Wolves to Premier League safety as they were embroiled in the relegation battle. However, Vito Pereira’s side are now 12 points clear of the bottom three.
He revealed in an interview last month that he wants to leave the club in the summer and move to a bigger club, catching the attention of the likes of Arsenal and Man United.
Cunha said: “Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.
“I had a lot of offers but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it. Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.”
