Arsenal Have ‘Registered Their Interest’ In 16-Goal Striker Who Has Already Held ‘Positive Talks’ With PL Rival

Arsenal remain in the race to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha this summer, according to reports.

The Gunners were one of the teams keen on snapping up the Brazilian international during the January transfer window before the player opted to sign a contract extension with his current team.

However, the new deal included a release clause which means Cunha can be signed for £62.5m, and talkSPORT claim that Mikel Arteta’s side have “registered their interest”.

They are not the only team involved, though, with Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United also in the mix.

Cunha is favouring a move to Old Trafford

It is believed that the 26-year-old has already held “positive talks” with the Red Devils and talkSPORT suggest that the Manchester club is now his “preferred” destination.

Cunha is said to have been promised that he will played in one of the two No.10 roles in Ruben Amorim’s front three rather than as the main striker.

The Brazilian has played in a similar position for Wolves this campaign, having found the back of the net 16 times in all competitions.

Arsenal are focused on other strikers

Cunha has been on the Gunners’ radar for quite some but sporting director Andrea Berta is thought to have his doubts about the player’s suitability, having questions about his work rate and attitude.

That has led to the London club switching their attention to alternatives, most notably Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swedish international is available for a similar fee but he has been much more prolific than Cunha. His goal against Rio Ave in the second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-final last night took his goal total for the season to an incredible 48 in just 47 games.
