Arsenal have sent scouts to see Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Martin Baturina in action, according to the Daily Express.

The English tabloid claims that the Croatian was watched whilst playing at the European Under 21 Championships for his country last month.

Baturina, who has been likened to Real Madrid legend Luka Modric, first came to Arsenal’s attention when they were scouting Josip Sutalo, but the London club’s recruitment team are now more interested in signing his teammate, who they hold “in high regard”.

The 20-year-old only signed a new contract, extending his stay at Dinamo until 2028, back in April, but his club are not expected to hold out for a very high transfer fee.

It was reported that the 20-year-old’s asking price was between £10m and £15m but the Express believe that Dinamo will “listen to offers” for below that figure.

Baturina is a no.10 by trade

In his 48 appearances for Dinamo last season, the Croatian Under 21 international played mostly as an attacking midfielder. There was the odd occasion where he was asked to play deeper or out on the wing, but he is at his best when he is asked to play as the no.10.

Baturina scored six goals and provided 13 assists in the league, which demonstrates his creative talents, but it is hard to see where he would fit in at Arsenal.

Captain Martin Odegaard is the main playmaker for Mikel Arteta’s side, while the likes of Kai Havertz and Fabio Vieira can also fill in when required.

A future Arsenal transfer target

With the Gunners not in need of another no.10, it is expected that an offer for Baturina won’t be tabled for the player during the summer transfer window.

Scouts are set to keep an eye on the midfielder’s development over the coming months ahead of a potential bid in the future.
