Arsenal ‘On High Alert’ After £50M Rated Transfer Target Rejects New Contract

Arsenal transfer target Marc Guehi is set to reject a contract extension from Crystal Palace, according to The Sun.

The English tabloid claims that the Gunners and Manchester United are “on high alert” with the defender seemingly signalling his intention to leave Selhurst Park.

Guehi has two years left on his contract at Palace and the Eagles were hoping to keep him at the club for at least another season.

They were keen to protect the centre-back’s value by offering him a new deal, but there is now a possibility that he could be offloaded this summer.

A potential alternative to Calafiori?

Mikel Arteta’s side are already locked in talks about signing another centre-half: Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori. However, there is believed to be conflict inside the club about whether to go ahead with the deal.

The Italian international could cost around €50m (£42m) and there are question marks about his injury history. With reports suggesting that Guehi could be available for around £50m, it will be interesting to see whether they do switch targets.

Arsenal are eyeing more than one Palace player

The Gunners are also believed to be keeping tabs on Eberechi Eze. The attacking midfielder has a £60m release clause in his contract which would make him an expensive purchase for the London club.

There will be competition for the 25-year-old, with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and West Ham having also registered their interest, but Arsenal would be among the favourites to secure his services.

Whether there is any chance of a double raid on Palace for both Eze and Guehi, we shall have to wait and see. For now, no official approaches have been made for either player but they are clearly on the radar.
