Arsenal transfer target Manu Kone “has the tools” to excel in the Premier League, according to Patrice Evra.

The former Manchester United star says his fellow countryman would need time to adapt to English football, but he could be a success if manager Mikel Arteta gets the most out of him:

“I like Manu Kone’s profile for the Premier League. He has energy, he carries the ball, he likes duels, and he works for the team. Those things matter in England.”

“The Premier League is faster. You don’t get time to breathe. So the important thing is adaptation. Don’t judge him after five games.”

“If he goes to Arsenal with a manager who knows how to use him, I think he can do well. He has the tools. Then it is about consistency.”

Kone has ‘agreed’ personal terms with the Gunners

Italian newspaper the Corriere della Sera (via The Mirror) claims that the France international’s agents have met with Arsenal officials to discuss a contract.

They report that personal terms have been hashed out between the Gunners and Kone’s representatives. We shall have to wait and see whether there is any truth to the reports.

Arsenal may be looking at cheaper alternatives to Guimaraes

It is clear that manager Mikel Arteta has earmarked Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes as his top option to strengthen the midfield.

However, the Gunners have already had one bid (worth a reported £55m) turned down, and the Magpies are thought to be very reluctant to sell their talisman, having already allowed the likes of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali to leave St James’ Park this summer.

It is believed that Kone could be on the market for around €50m (£43m), so he would cost considerably less to sign than Guimaraes, if Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta do choose to switch targets.
