Arsenal Target Ex-Manchester City Ace As Nico Williams Alternative

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal have identified former Manchester City attacker Leroy Sane as an alternative target to Spaniard Nico Williams.

The Gunners are in the race for Williams this summer with competition from Barcelona, Chelsea, and Liverpool and so have found a second option should they miss out on the much-admired 22-year-old.

Sane, 28, is currently at Bayern Munich who aren’t necessarily looking to sell him, however, a fee of £40 million or more could be enough to tempt the German club to let Sane leave.

Mikel Arteta is keen on Sane who he knows well as he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City when Sane was there between 2016 and 2020.

The German international made over 130 appearances for City, scoring 39 goals and recording 43 assists in a successful spell at the Etihad.

Arsenal still in the race to sign Nico Williams

Despite the volume of interest for Williams, he remains a top target for Arsenal this summer. Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool are both chasing the winger. Furthermore, Barcelona are in the best position to sign the Spaniard as they have confirmed that they are prepared to pay the £300k a week wage demands that Williams has set.

Leroy Sane could add pace to Arsenal’s attack

Leroy Sane’s strength comes from his agility and pace which is currently something that Mikel Arteta is looking to add. He mainly plays on the right wing, but would likely play down the left-hand side to allow Arteta to accommodate Bukayo Saka on his preferred right side.

The German winger would be competing with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard for his game time, if his pace gives Arsenal’s attack something different then Arteta could begin to prioritize Sane.
