Arsenal are “considering” whether to make a bid for Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche, according to reports in the French media.
Newspaper L’Equipe claim that the Gunners are interested in signing the 23-year-old, along with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.
Manager Mikel Arteta is hoping to strengthen his options out wide this summer, with the Gunners having been linked with the likes of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon and Chelsea’s Noni Madueke in recent weeks.
Akliouche would not exactly be a cheap alternative to these targets, with L’Equipe reporting that Monaco want at least €70m (£60m) for the France Under-23 international.
What do fans need to know about Akliouche?
The forward is a right winger by trade. He prefers cutting in from the flank to use his stronger left foot. In that sense, he has a very similar profile to Madueke (who is also the same age).
Akliouche scored 7 goals and provided 12 assists in 43 appearances last season, which is not a bad return, but many still feel the player has untapped potential.
Over the past few months, he has also attracted interest from both Manchester City and Manchester United.
The player has praised an Arsenal legend
Akliouche was selected in France’s squad for the Olympics last year. He was managed by Thierry Henry at the tournament and, speaking about his relationship with the Gunners icon, he said:
“Both on and off the pitch, he gives me a lot of advice. Thanks to his experience as a player and coach, his words are gold. You have to pay attention to them. When he says something to you, you pay attention because he never says just anything.”
“He’s also aware that young players need more attention and advice, so he helps us a lot. It’s important to have that help.”
