Arsenal are reportedly stepping up their January efforts to sign a La Liga midfielder also wanted by Man United.
The Gunners had one of their best transfer windows in the summer, signing the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze and more. So far, it has been paying off for them, as they sit on top of the Premier League table after seven games.
They’ll come out of the international break with a game against Fulham, hoping to keep their place ahead of the likes of Liverpool, Man City and Tottenham.
Arsenal will be looking ahead to the January transfer window wanting to potentially add even more players to bolster Mikel Arteta‘s squad. They are reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign someone they have been linked to for over a year.
Arsenal ‘accelerate efforts to sign Lucien Agoume
Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume was linked with a move to the Emirates two years ago, and in the summer transfer window too, but the Gunners were yet to make a move for the 23-year-old.
He has also been linked to Manchester United in the past, but it seems that a January move away from La Liga could be on the cards for the French U21s star.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Arsenal have ‘accelerated’ their attempt to sign Agoume, with the January window looking like a possibility for the midfielder to come to North London. It is reported that Sevilla could be willing to sell the midfielder for £35m.
Agoume has made seven appearances for Sevilla so far this season, scoring one goal and one assist. He plays as a defensive-minded midfielder, and so would be competing with the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Declan Rice for starting minutes under Mikel Arteta.
He would be more of an addition for the future, with the 23-year-old likely a candidate to be sent out on loan if Arsenal were to sign him in January. But he’s been a long-term target for the Gunners, and so they could potentially get their man in the winter window.
