Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao, who is also reportedly a target of Liverpool.
The Gunners are likely to sign a winger and a striker in the summer transfer window as they are set to have a “big” transfer window according to the comments of manager Mikel Arteta in recent weeks.
Arsenal still have plenty to play for this season as they are currently 3-0 up in their Champions League tie against Real Madrid. They play the second leg next Wednesday.
But, the Gunners will be looking at potential transfer targets this summer, with AC Milan winger Rafael Leao emerging as a possible target in recent weeks alongside Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.
Liverpool are also said to be interested in Leao, however, they have now signed Mo Salah to a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2027. Seeing as Leao would have been a replacement for Salah, it is unlikely that the Reds will hold their interest in him.
With Liverpool seemingly out of the race for the 25-year-old, it leaves Arsenal free to make a move for him should they be keen to bring him to the Emirates over the summer.
Who is Rafael Leao?
The AC Milan attacker can play both as a winger or a forward, with his most natural position being on the left-wing, so he would play for Arsenal alongside Bukayo Saka.
Leao has been at Milan for since 2019 when he joined from French side Lille, and has since made over 250 appearances for the Italian club. He’s scored 68 goals and provided 56 assists.
TransferMarkt has his market value at £65 million, but he has a release clause of £146m. However, reports recently have suggested that Milan would be willing to sell him for £83m if that was a fee that Arsenal would consider paying.
