Report: Arteta Identifies Nico Williams As Preferred Transfer Target

Mikel Arteta has made it clear that Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams is his preferred transfer target for Arsenal amid interest from Barcelona and Liverpool.

Arsenal have been looking to add more attacking firepower this summer as they aim to bridge the gap to Premier League title winners Manchester City.

It seems to be a foregone conclusion that Williams will be on his way out this summer amid interest from Premier League and La Liga clubs.

He has been impressing at Euro 2024 for the Spanish national side, being one of the most exciting players at the tournament, scoring one goal and one assist.

Nico Williams is attracting transfer interest from home and abroad

Mikel Arteta isn’t the only Premier League manager that is keen on Nico Williams. Liverpool boss Arne Slot also wanted to sign the winger as Liverpool have been heavily linked with the Spaniard.

However, with wage demands of £300k a week, both Arsenal and Liverpool may struggle to land his signature. The winger has also attracted interest from La Liga giants Barcelona and it has been reported by ESPN that the financially troubled side can afford to sign Williams – making them the current frontrunners.

He will likely be on the move very soon and so if Arsenal want to avoid missing out on Williams, they will need to make a bid for the winger as soon as possible.

How much would Nico Williams cost Arsenal to sign?

Williams’ estimated value sits at around £60 million, with the potential to be sky high in the future for the 21 year-old.

TBRFootball have reported that Williams could go for around £50 million this summer with Athletic Bilbao virtually resigned to selling the winger.

Arsenal wouldn’t neccesarily have an issue with the transfer fee, but the wage bill could be an issue for the Gunners, especially with competition from Barcelona and Liverpool.
