Arsenal target Kang-in Lee is open to leaving Paris Saint-Germain this month, according to The Athletic reporter James McNicholas.
The South Korean international is said to be on the Gunners’ radar and they are likely to be keeping their eye on the situation with the player “considering his options.”
Lee was signed from Mallorca for €22m in the summer of 2023 and, while he has had regular game time under head coach Luis Enrique, he is not a key player.
It is believed that PSG would like to retain his services, although they could be open to selling if they receive an offer that is double what they paid.
Arsenal don’t have the funds for a permanent deal
The main issue for Mikel Arteta’s side is that they are not in a position to shell out a fee close to €44m (£36.5m) during the January transfer window.
Profit and Sustainability rules mean that, if they did make a bid for Lee, it is likely to be a loan with an option to buy, which is not the sort of arrangement that PSG would find acceptable at the moment.
Are alternatives to Lee being considered?
The injuries to both Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri mean the club are actively looking to strengthen their options on the wings this month.
Speaking in his press conference on Monday, Arteta said the club are “very alert” in terms of making a potential move in the market, so something could happen.
The ideal target would be Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams but, if Arsenal can’t afford Lee, there is little chance of securing the Spaniard’s signature, considering he would cost even more. His release clause is €58m (£48m).
They would also face similar problems with alternatives such as Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo.
