Arsenal Face Major Blow In Pursuit Of £91 Million Goalscorer

Arsenal transfer target striker Julian Alvarez is set to join Atletico Madrid from Manchester City after a fee was agreed yesterday.

Atletico are set to pay City an initial fee of £64.3m with add-ons of £17.2m for the Argentina international who wanted a move away from the Etihad to ensure more consistent game time.

The Gunners identified Alvarez as a possible transfer target this summer. According to HITC, Mikel Arteta’s side entered the race for the 24-year-old in July.

However, as it seems set for the striker to make the move to La Liga, Arsenal may have to look elsewhere for their new goalscoring threat.

Alvarez was linked to both Arsenal and Chelsea earlier in the summer, however, it would have provided a dramatic move should he have switched to a Premier League title rival.

Atletico are also eyeing up a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in what is set to be a double Premier League swoop.

Alvarez held talks with the Gunners

Arsenal’s pursuit of Alvarez led to the striker holding talks with the North London club and that he was open to a move to the Emirates this summer.

However, due to the ongoing title rivalry between Manchester City and Arsenal, City would likely have set a slightly higher asking price for the Gunners compared to Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal targeting a striker

The Gunners already have a proven goalscorer in Gabriel Jesus, however, the big problem is his fitness. The former City star has played 27 out of 38 Premier League games last season.

The year before that, Jesus only managed 26. Mikel Arteta is keen to add a striker that can stay fit.

Victor Osimhen is a name that has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, as has Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres.
