‘Arsenal First And Foremost’ – Report Claims Gunners Will Target £43M Rated Dutch Ace As They Seek New No.9

Arsenal are expected to make a move for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee this summer, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Italian website reports that AC Milan and Napoli are also very interested in the Dutchman, but they will have to contend with interest from clubs in the Premier League.

It is believed that “Arsenal first and foremost” are pressing to secure Zirkzee’s signature, with the Gunners looking to strengthen their options up front.

The 22-year-old is likely to cost around €45m (£38.5m) to €50m (£43m), which would make him a cheaper option than the other forwards they could target.

Which other strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates?

Another player based in Serie A, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, is known to be on Arsenal’s radar but there is now a feeling that Paris Saint-Germain will win the race for the Nigerian international, following the announcement that Kylian Mbappe will leave at the end of the season.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins would be the other alternatives that Mikel Arteta’s side could consider, but they are a lot older than Zirkzee.

Arsenal will have to see off rivals in order to sign Zirkzee

In addition to Milan and Napoli, Manchester United are known to be keeping close tabs on the Netherlands Under 21 international. The player’s former club Bayern Munich also have an opportunity to re-sign him when the transfer window reopens.

When they sold Zirkzee to Bologna last summer, they included a €40m (£34m) buyback clause. At the moment, it is not thought that the Bundesliga champions will bring him back to the Allianz Arena. If that is the case then the Gunners will have a very good chance to snap him up.

Bologna’s asking price is pretty high and it remains to be seen whether Arteta and sporting director Edu feel Zirkzee’s talent warrants the outlay.
