Arsenal are reportedly in pursuit of 21 year old winger Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven as they attempt to topple Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League. The Gunners are looking to add a number of new players this summer.
Belgian winger Johan Bakayoko who the club inquired about last week seems to be a leading target. He scored 12 goals for PSV Eindhoven last season and already has 14 appearances for his national side to add to his resume.
Liverpool are also credited with an interest in the young wideman as new boss Arne Slot wants to sign a scoring forward.
What are football insiders saying about the player?
Football Journalist Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the transfer when speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “I saw these links, but at the moment I have no confirmation anything is advanced or concrete at this stage between Arsenal and Bakayoko. He’s been scouted by several clubs.
“He is for sure one of the most talented wingers available on the market. But at the moment, Arsenal have still not started a concrete negotiation with the player or with the club for Bakayoko, so it’s still early.
“I think Arsenal will take their time before deciding what they want to do in that position. But at the moment, for Bakayoko, it is not something imminent or something close.”
Arsenal’s need for a new winger
Bakayoko could prove to be a good move for the Gunners who are in need of extra help on both wings and especially with a fast and explosive player such as the Belgian.
They currently have Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, all of which would most likely play ahead of Bakayoko in the near future with Reiss Nelson likely to leave. So it would be a luxury if Mikel Arteta had the depth to bring on someone that can make an impact later on in games; the 21 year-old would provide just that.
