Arsenal Told That They “Don’t Need” £47m Bundesliga Star Amid ‘Serious Negotiations’ Claim

Arsenal have been told by former player Ray Parlour that they don’t need to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha despite their reported interest in him.

The Gunners have been busy so far this summer, with one of the areas of concern being in midfield. Following the departures of Jorginho and Thomas Partey, Arsenal have replaced them by signing Christian Norgaard from Brentford, and bringing in Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.

However, reports emerged this week in Germany saying that Arsenal want to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha, who joined the Bundesliga giants for £47m just last summer. He now has a market value of around £26m, and Arsenal are reportedly in ‘serious negotiations’ to sign him.

But with Norgaard and Zubimendi added on top of Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, and Mikel Merino, it begs the question of whether Arsenal actually need to sign Palhinha and spend the money to do so.

Parlour tells Arsenal not to sign Palhinha

Amid the recent reports linking the 30-year-old midfielder with a move to the Emirates Stadium, former Arsenal player Ray Parlour has told the club not to waste their money on him.

It isn’t that Parlour thinks Palhinha isn’t good enough, it is more a case of he doesn’t think that Arsenal need to sign him. Parlour said on talkSPORT: “He was very good at Fulham, has gone to Bayern Munich, a big money move, but I don’t think they [Arsenal] need him.”

“They’ve got Zubimendi coming in in central midfield, who’s going to be that holding player. They’ve got Norgaard, who is really good cover, a very experienced player, captain at Brentford, so he knows how to deal in Premier League games. For me, Palhinha, I’m not saying he’s not a bad player, he’s a good player, but I don’t think they need him. They should spend their money elsewhere.”
