Paul Scholes Tells Arsenal To Splash Out £50M On Player Who “Could Score 25 Goals” For Them This Season

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes claims Arsenal should consider signing Ivan Toney before the transfer window closes.

The striker is expected to leave Brentford as he has less than a year left on his contract and Scholes says Toney would be deadly in front of goal for the Gunners:

“Ivan Toney is the one who has been mentioned a lot. What is he? 28 years of age. I think in an Arsenal team he could score you 25 goals. I think in a lot of teams he could score 25 goals.”

Arsenal were heavily linked with Toney back in January but Brentford were looking for as much as £100m for the player at the time.

It is believed that the Bees would accept half that amount now, although his price tag could come down even further the closer we get to deadline day.

Arsenal have looked at several strikers

Toney is by no means the only No.9 who has come under consideration in recent months. The Gunners wanted to buy Benjamin Sesko in June before the Slovenian signed a new contract with RB Leipzig instead.

Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres has been scouted on a regular basis, while a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen cannot be completely ruled out.

There is a chance that a forward won’t be signed

Speaking after Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in a friendly midweek, manager Mikel Arteta talked up the form of Gabriel Jesus:

“I said from day one, the first feeling when I saw him after talking to him at the end of the season is that he was something different. I could sense it. His energy was different, the way he looks is different, the way he’s moving is different. He really wants it.”

Considering it was reported earlier this summer that the Gunners were open to selling the Brazilian international, it appears that Arteta has had a change of heart and that has likely influenced the club’s decision not to actively pursue another no.9.
