Arsenal are in need of reinforcements in the January transfer window as they only have one fit striker a the moment.
Due to the ACL injury that Gabriel Jesus suffered earlier in the month, Kai Havertz is the only striker that the Gunners have at their disposal. The German has scored eight goals in 19 Premier League games and has filled in well at the position.
However, Mikel Arteta‘s side are second in the Premier League table, six points behind league leaders Liverpool, who don’t look as though they will drop points regularly this season.
Because of that, transfer reports have been circulating linking the Gunners to several top strikers, including Victor Osimhen from Napoli, Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, and Matheus Cunha at Wolves.
However, it is proving difficult for the Gunners to get any of tthose three over the line, and so Arteta should look elsewhere for a cheaper, and more accessible option.
Arsenal could land proven Premier League goalscorer in late January swoop
Ivan Toney was linked with a move to Arsenal during the summer transfer window, with many fans believing that he was the solution to the Gunners’ striker woes. He was also linked with Manchester United and Chelsea.
However, the former Brentford man didn’t receive any offers from Premier League sides, prompting a move to the Saudi Pro League for a fee of £35.3 million – a fee that Arsenal could have been able to pay.
In a four-year spell with Brentford, Toney became one of the club’s greatest ever goal scorers, netting 72 goals in that period. He also made his England debut, featuring at Euro 2024 for Gareth Southgate’s side.
Toney’s goal scoring record has been well established, and since he gambled a move to Saudi Arabia, his market value has further decreased to just £23.5m – a fee that Arsenal can afford even more.
The Gunners could swoop in for the 28-year-old, who would surely bite at the chance to return to the Premier League and get a shot to play in Thomas Tuchel’s England team at the next World Cup in 2026.
There is no doubt that if Toney joined Arsenal, he would bag goals for Arteta, and more importantly, he would add some much needed depth at the striker position. A true number nine that could help Arsenal beat Liverpool to the title for a cheaper price than in summer…sign me up!
