‘He Could Be A Great Signing’ Ex-Gunner Keen On £42m-Rated Goalscorer

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has backed the Gunners to go after England international Ivan Toney this summer.

According to the Sun, the Brentford man has generated a lot of transfer interest from Manchester United, West Ham, and Arsenal. It is unclear as to which of the three are in talks regarding his future but they are all keeping tabs on his situation.

The Gunners are in need of a striker this summer as injury-prone Gabriel Jesus is one of their only options up front as things stand with Eddie Nketiah looking likely to leave the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with a number of names up top including Naploi’s Victor Osimhen and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres as well as Spanish hotshot Nico Williams.

However, speaking to Gambling.com, Ex-Arsenal man Petit believes Toney is the best choice. He said: “I really like Ivan Toney. He gave an assist to Harry Kane for his goal and I think he could be a great signing for Arsenal as they definitely need a striker.

“Victor Osimhen has been linked with the club for weeks now and that could be good but I personally really like Toney.”

How likely is Arsenal to pursue Ivan Toney?

Toney is a wanted man, so if the Gunners are to make a move for him, they will have to do it very soon. It is unlikely that the 28-year-old will be prepared to go into negotiations before the end of Euro 2024 on Sunday. But when he returns, it could kickstart a bidding war.

The Sun is reporting that internal talks are being held at Old Trafford over the striker meaning that Manchester United could swoop in and get Toney from under Arsenal’s nose. Other sides like former club Newcastle, who are linked with signing a striker, and Everton, who need a goalscorer, have surprisingly not been mentioned as suitors for Toney.

Ivan Toney’s estimated price tag

Seeing as the England international is in demand this summer, Brentford holds all the cards in making sure they make a healthy profit on the striker’s sale.

Toney’s value currently sits at around £42 million, with reported figures from Goal.com claiming that the Bees are demanding at least £50 million for the attacker, with the player himself wanting £250,000 a week.

This means that any side wanting to bring him in will have to be very aware of their positions regarding financial fair play and may have to sell a couple of names to afford to bring in the 28-year-old.
