Arsenal and Liverpool are both reportedly interested in signing Feyenoord attacker Igor Paixao in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners are set for a “big” transfer window according to Mikel Arteta who will hope to build a squad that can finally get over the line and win the Premier League title, after two, and what will likely be three, seasons finishing second.
They still have a chance at silverware this season via the Champions League after beating Real Madrid 3-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final tie. But with the Premier League season all but over, Arteta will be looking ahead to the summer to decide who he wants to sign.
Arsenal are likely to sign attacking players in the summer due to the fact that they have seen several injuries to the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
Arsenal linked to Igor Paixao
The latest attacker that Arsenal have been linked to is Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao, who has also reportedly attracted attention from league title rivals Liverpool.
According to Caught Offside, Arsenal and Liverpool are both showing increasing interest in the Brazilian winger, and are scouting the 24-year-old, who has reportedly produced ‘glowing reports’ from the scouts.
Paixao has made 41 appearances this season for Feyenoord, scoring 14 goals and providing 17 assists for Robin Van Persie’s side. He can play either on the left, right or in a central position.
The 24-year-old is estimated to be worth £21.4m, but Feyenoord could drive up his asking price as he has been one of their star players this season in the Eredivisie.
Paixao could be a cheaper alternative to Nico Williams
The Gunners have been strongly linked to signing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, who has a £48m release clause.
His numbers this season haven’t been spectacular, scoring four goals and providing five assists in La Liga this season. So Paixao could be a safer choice due to the fact that he is cheaper than Williams.
It would be a transfer with less risk, considering that Williams’ transfer fee is hefty, plus, his wages would make him one of the highest-paid Arsenal players in the squad.
