Arsenal are one of three Premier League teams interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, according to reports in France.
The 22-year-old has been in very good form this season, scoring 18 goals in 34 appearances, and his performances have attracted the attention of scouts.
L’Equipe claim that the Gunners, Liverpool and West Ham are all weighing up potential offers for Ekitike ahead of the summer transfer window.
Frankfurt reportedly value the Frenchman, who was once dubbed the “next Thierry Henry, at around €80m (£67m).
Arsenal are seeking a viable alternative to Isak
Mikel Arteta’s side would favour an approach for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak but the Magpies are likely to price teams out of a move for the Swedish international, having set a valuation between £120m and £150m.
Ironically, Ekitike was targeted by the North East club prior to them signing Isak. The young forward was at Stade de Reims when Eddie Howe’s team tried to buy him in the summer of 2022.
However, it is believed that his agent’s demands proved a major obstacle and they went on to spend £60m on Isak just a couple of months later.
How does Ekitike compare to Benjamin Sesko?
It has been widely reported that the Gunners would consider targeting a different Bundesliga striker if their pursuit of Isak proves fruitless.
RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko has been on the club’s radar for several years and an attempt was made to buy him last year, only for the striker to snub the offer and sign a new contract.
However, he does have a release clause which means he will be available this summer for the same price as Ekitike. Based on this season’s stats, it is understandable why Arsenal may now be favouring a move for the France youth international. The Frankfurt number nine has slightly more goal contributions – 24 to Sesko’s 22.
