Arsenal Join Rivals In Race To Sign 25 Year Old Who Was Described As An “Unbelievable Player” By Jurgen Klopp

Arsenal are interested in signing Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, according to the Daily Mail.

Tottenham and West Ham are the two clubs who have been most heavily linked with the 25-year-old but it appears as though the Gunners may consider an offer for the forward later on in the transfer window.

At the moment, manager Mikel Arteta is focused on recruiting other targets, with the London club in negotiations to sign West Ham’s Declan Rice, Chelsea’s Kai Havertz and Ajax’s Jurrien Timber.

However, there is still a possibility that Arsenal will make a bid for Barnes before the end of the summer, although interest from other teams could force them to make their move slightly earlier.

Barnes has a big fan in Jurgen Klopp

Before Liverpool faced Leicester in a Premier League game a couple of years ago, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp did not hide his admiration for Barnes, stating that he feels that the England international is somewhat underrated:

“Barnes is probably one of the biggest talents, I’m not sure if he is respected or appreciated as much as he should be, he is an unbelievable player to be honest, a proper Leicester product.”

The winger had already been handed his first England cap before Klopp’s remarks, so you wouldn’t say he is a player that has been completely overlooked, but it’s clear that he shouldn’t be playing in the Championship with his level of talent.

Barnes had a great season despite Leicester’s struggles

It must be said that the forward cannot be blamed for the Foxes’ relegation. He scored 13 league goals in 34 appearances, ending up as his team’s top scorer ahead of James Maddison.

For that reason, it’s not a surprise that the Gunners and a number of other Premier League clubs have taken a keen interest in him.
