Atletico Mineiro defender Ivan Roman has revealed that Arsenal are one of three Premier League clubs who are interested in signing Gabriel Veneno.
The 15-year-old was linked with a transfer to the Gunners back in April, and Roman (who is a teammate of the teenager) says he is one player everyone should be keeping an eye on over the coming years:
“There’s a 2009 player called Gabriel Veneno. They signed a contract with him at the club, took him to the dressing room and are going to use him in the first team’s training sessions. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United wanted to buy him.”
Veneno has yet to make his senior debut, but as Roman mentions, it looks like he will be participating in some first-team matches for Atletico Mineiro very soon.
The forward has already been compared to a Brazilian icon
Writing in a profile piece about Veneno last month, Madrid-based publication AS described him as the “new Neymar”.
That’s a bold comparison to make, considering he has yet to kick a ball in anger for the first team, but the interest shown in him from Mikel Arteta’s side and other Premier League teams suggests that scouts are convinced about his potential.
Arsenal are looking to strengthen their options out wide
With Veneno being a left-footed right winger, he would provide competition for Bukayo Saka if he were to make the switch to the Emirates in the future.
It should be pointed out, though, that the forward would only be able to make the switch to England when he turns 18. That means fans would only get to see him wearing an Arsenal shirt for the start of the 2027/28 season if the transfer were to go ahead.
