Romano Claims Arsenal Have Sent “Scouts” To Watch South American Starlet But 5 Other Clubs Are Also Interested

Arsenal have been keeping close tabs on Corinthians midfielder Gabriel Moscardo, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Writing in his Daily Briefing Substack column, Romano said that the Gunners have sent “scouts” to watch the 18-year-old, along with Liverpool. He mentions that Chelsea and three other teams have also been tracking the player:

“Chelsea tried to sign Gabriel Moscardo in August for their first team, but there was no agreement. Liverpool, Arsenal and three more clubs have been monitoring the player with their scouts but there’s still no advanced negotiations, not even with Chelsea now.”

The Brazilian Under 23 international has only made 23 appearances at senior level so far but he has clearly made a strong impression with his performances.

Moscardo won’t be available on the cheap

As Romano mentions, the teenager was the subject of an official bid from Chelsea last summer. The Blues were reportedly prepared to pay £18m but Corinthians rejected the proposal.

It is believed that the Brazilian club may hold out for at least €25m (£22m) to sell Moscardo but that asking price could rise further if competition for his signature increases.

Arsenal are prioritising a move for a different Brazilian midfielder

Moscardo is a holding midfield player by trade, which is a position that manager Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen when the January transfer window opens.

Thomas Partey is set to remain sidelined with a thigh problem until the New Year, and the Gunners are reportedly keen to find a replacement for the Ghanaian international.

While Moscardo is seemingly one of the targets being considered, it is believed that another Brazilian, Douglas Luiz, is the number one priority. The London club tried to buy the Aston Villa player last year and it looks like they will make another attempt to snap him up.
