The agent of Internacional attacking midfielder Gabriel Carvalho has rubbished claims that Arsenal are interested in the player.
It was reported on Monday that the Gunners were poised to table an offer worth €25m (£21.5m) for the teenager this week but, speaking to Revista Colorada, his agent Augusto Nogueira said “there is absolutely nothing” to the story.
Nogueira went on to claim no representative from Arsenal “has even spoken about the player” to him, which suggests that any interest in Carvalho is pretty minimal.
It should be pointed out that the London club have been linked with the teenager on more than one occasion over the past six months, so it’s likely that he is being scouted by sporting director Edu and his recruitment team.
However, it’s very clear that any claims about an imminent bid are wide of the mark, and a transfer this summer is not on the cards.
What do Arsenal fans need to know about Carvalho?
The 16-year-old came through Interacional’s academy before making his senior debut against Vitoria back in June. Since then, he has gone on to make 5 appearances for the first team.
Carvalho is a diminutive playmaker, possessing a good deal of pace, with excellent ball control and a low centre of gravity. You can read more about him in our profile here.
Who will the Gunners sign before the transfer window closes?
With a move for Carvalho seemingly not under consideration, the club’s focus in the final three weeks of the window is expected to be on recruiting Mikel Merino.
It has been reported that Arsenal have agreed to pay €30m (£26m) for the Real Sociedad midfielder but there hasn’t been an update in several days, suggesting that progress on the deal may have stalled. We shall see if the London club can get the transfer over the line.
