“Work In Progress”: Fabrizio Romano Issues Arsenal Transfer Update Amid January Striker Search

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has issued an update suggesting that Arsenal have made calls to several European clubs amid their search for a striker.

The Gunners won 2-1 against North London rivals Tottenham on Wednesday night, handing them second place in the Premier League table.

They sit four points behind league leaders Liverpool, who dropped points during the week, with a 1-1 draw against high-flying Nottingham Forest.

Mikel Arteta‘s side will welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates at the weekend, with the hope of closing the gap to just one point to Arne Slot’s side.

The Gunners are looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window, and Romano has confirmed that the club are making calls in order to try and land a number nine.

He said on his YouTube channel: “For the January window, Arsenal are working on the striker position. Mikel Arteta confirmed after the injury to Gabriel Jesus that Arsenal are working for a new addition. And I can tell you that in the last 24-48 hours there were many calls from Arsenal to ask about the situations of important players around Europe.

“So Arsenal are exploring opportunities for the striker position. Let’s see what they will be able to do, but for sure Arsenal are looking at that, work in progress.”

Arsenal change transfer stance on £84m-rated striker

The Gunners had previously been linked with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has an £84m release clause in his contract. He has also been linked to Chelsea and Manchester United.

The club had deemed this fee too high for a January transfer consideration, however, according to LondonWorld, they have changed their opinion on the price.

They have decided that they are no longer reluctant to pay the fee and are prepared to spend the hefty amount on trying to secure the Sweden international. It means that they could make a January move for Gyokeres without obstacle if they pay his release clause.
