Ex-Chelsea winger Florent Malouda claims Arsenal or Bayern Munich could be realistic destinations for Christopher Nkunku.
The Frenchman has been linked with a switch to the Emirates in recent weeks and speaking exclusively to Gooner News (courtesy of Racing Tipster), Malouda said he would prefer his fellow countryman to remain at Stamford Bridge and fight for his first team place, but he admits a fresh start could prove beneficial to the player:
“Arsenal or Bayern Munich would be the right kind of place for him to go, but I’m not sure he should go. Personally, I like him as a player, as a person. I would love for him to fight. To prove what he showed in the beginning. I think it’s more a mental aspect that he needs to work on a little bit, like Jadon Sancho. Moving clubs, it’s sometimes running away from what you have to adjust.”
“He’s used to the Bundesliga, but at Bayern, there would be competition too. So for me, he has more things to improve. But it’s like he kind of gave up mentally, and that’s what he needs to adjust. But yeah, Bayern Munich or Arsenal would be good clubs for him to continue to progress , and, most important, is to prepare for the World Cup coming next year.”
Arteta has signed Chelsea players in the past
Manager Mikel Arteta have recruited Jorginho and Kai Havertz from the Blues over the past couple of years, so there would be nothing stopping them making an approach for Nkunku, who was snapped up for £52m from RB Leipzig at the start of last season.
A lot would depend on the 27-year-old’s asking price. When it was rumoured that he could leave in January, his valuation was set at £65m, which seems way too steep.
Arsenal want to add firepower to their attack
There is no disputing the fact that the Gunners’ main weakness is up front. They have recorded 13 draws in the Premier League this campaign, and to convert some of those into wins, more goals are required. For that reason, the club are looking to sign a new No.9 and potentially a left winger.
As it stands, Nkunku is unlikely to be among the club’s top targets for the summer transfer window, but if he is available for a low enough fee, and the player is interested in joining, then there is potential for this deal to happen.
