Arsenal Emerge As Favourites To Sign Striker Who Was Valued At £100M In Summer

Arsenal have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Brighton striker Evan Ferguson during the January transfer window.

The Gunners are keen to add a goal scorer during the January window after they failed to sign a striker during the summer.

They have been linked to several top strikers including Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and Atalanta attacker Mateo Retegui in recent weeks.

However, reports have linked the Gunners to Ferguson, who has struggled to regain his place in Fabian Hurzeler’s starting XI following a period on the sidelines due to injury.

According to TalkSport, Arsenal are considering a move for the Ireland international this month, especially considering the fact that Brighton look prepared to at least send him out on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old has made just 12 Premier League appearances for Brighton this season, scoring one goal in what has been a tough return to action after an ankle injury which kept him out for almost five months.

Arsenal face competition to sign Evan Ferguson

The Gunners aren’t the only fellow Premier League team aiming to land the talented 20-year-old, as West Ham, Fulham and Chelsea amongst those reportedly considering a move for him.

According to BetIdeas, Ferguson’s odds to join Arsenal have ‘slashed’ in recent weeks, making the Emirates the most-likely destination for the striker.

The Gunners are 2/1 to sign the Brighton man, whereas Tottenham (11/4), Nottingham Forest (13/2),  and West Ham (8/1) follow them in the odds charts.

Do the Gunners need a striker after Gabriel Jesus’ resurgence?

There has been a lot of talk suggesting that Arsenal should sign a striker in the January transfer window as they don’t have a ‘traditional number nine’.

However, attacker Gabriel Jesus has seen a resurgence in his form following a poor start to the season. Jesus didn’t score a goal until their 3-2 win against Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup quarter-final in mid-December.

Jesus scored a hat trick on that day, before scoring twice in a Premier League game against Palace the weekend after, when Arsenal won 5-1.

Seeing the recent form of the Brazil international, it may raise questions in Arteta’s head as to whether the Gunners need to spend big to add a striker. So if they could sign Ferguson on loan, it could be the ideal solution.
