According to reports, Arsenal are considering a late bid for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin who has generated interest from Premier League teams this summer.
Caught Offside say that the Gunners see Calvert-Lewin as a cut-price option compared to Victor Osimhen who Arsenal have also been linked with.
Mikel Arteta has been keen to bring in a new striker since the beginning of the transfer window and will be even more so now due to Gabriel Jesus’ recent injury.
Everton had set an asking price of £40m for Calvert-Lewin who only has one year left on his contract at Goodison Park making this summer the time to sell him.
However, he would be a big loss for the Toffees who are starting down another season of relegation battling under Sean Dyche.
Arsenal rivals keen on Calvert-Lewin
The Gunners aren’t the only Premier League team keen on the striker with both Chelsea and Newcastle also reportedly interested.
Newcastle refused to pay Newcastle’s asking price of £40m for Calvert-Lewin according to TheBootRoom, due to their valuation of him sitting at just £25m.
Chelsea, much like Arsenal, see the 27-year-old as a cheaper option to Victor Osimhen but with their recent signing of Joao Felix, it is unclear if they are as keen on signing another striker before the transfer deadline.
Calvert-Lewin to replace Eddie Nketiah?
If Arsenal were to sign Calvert-Lewin, he would likely replace Eddie Nketiah who looks set for a move to Crystal Palace according to the Athletic.
With Jesus injured, a rotation between Calvert-Lewin and in-form Kai Havertz would likely take place in the striker spot for the Gunners likely based on their opponents and current form.
The Everton striker has played in both of the Toffees’ opening games but with the side yet to record a goal, he hasn’t been able to make the impact he would have wanted.
