Opinion – Arsenal Should Make A Move For 65-Goal Premier League Star Amid Liverpool Florian Wirtz Transfer

Arsenal should try and sign Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota following the Reds signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Mikel Arteta wants to add more attacking talent this summer, as he aims to buy both a main striker, winger and more players who can add depth up front in case of injury. Last season, the Gunners saw injuries to Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and more up front, showing that they need more depth.

They are going after RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, who is likely to become their main striker. But, if they fail to land him, then they will likely target Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres.

However, with the need for more depth up front, Arsenal should pay attention to the transfer work of Premier League champions Liverpool, who, as reported by BBC Sport, have agreed a £116m deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Florian Wirtz.

Arsenal should sign Diogo Jota

Seeing as Liverpool have spent an English record transfer fee on Wirtz, he will be their striker next season, so what will happen to Portuguese attacker Diogo Jota, who was playing up front for a large part of the season.

Jota scored nine goals in 37 games last season for the Reds, taking his total tally at the club to an impressive 65 goals. However, his future is now uncertain amid the Wirtz signing, so he could be willing to move on.

If that is the case, the Arsenal should make a move and sign him to add some much needed depth up front. Jota is a proven Premier League goalscorer, who is also very adept in creating chances and key passes in the final third. The Gunners were linked to Jota in February.

Adding someone like Jota won’t be a game changer, but it would give Arteta a player with experience, and the skill to provide several goals for the side across a season. It would be a fantastic way to help them catch up to Liverpool.

Jota’s value is estimated to be just £34 million, but with his contract expiring in 2027, and his age at 28, Liverpool could be willing to sell him for less. If that is the case, Arsenal should swoop in and try to bring him to the Emirates.
