“Informed” – Sky Journalist Reveals Arsenal Have Joined Chelsea In Pursuing U17 World Cup Winner

Arsenal are keeping tabs on Wolfsburg centre-back David Odogu, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The journalist says the 17-year-old is “open” to moving clubs this month, with the Gunners joining the likes of Chelsea, Leicester and Brentford in being kept “informed” about his situation:

Odogu has yet to make his first-team debut for Wolfsburg but he is a highly regarded young defender after his displays for his country at youth level.

He played a key role in Germany winning the Under 17 World Cup

The teenager was part of the squad that won the European Under 17 Championships back last June but he didn’t feature that prominently at the tournament, making just one start in the final group game against Scotland.

However, it was a different story as Germany lifted the Under 17 World Cup at the beginning of December. Odogu played the full 90 minutes in all but one of the matches in the competition, as his team went on to beat France on penalties in the final.

Wolfsburg are determined to keep hold of Odogu

Considering the defender’s potential, it is not a surprise that his current team are trying to retain his services. He can’t sign a professional contract until he turns 18 at the start of June.

Odogu has, though, provisionally agreed a three-year-deal so Arsenal and other teams will have to directly negotiate with Wolfsburg if they want him. Usually, a club can take a young player and pay compensation if he isn’t under contract but it doesn’t apply in this case.
