Arsenal have been heavily linked with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in recent months, however, they are now eyeing a move for one of his teammates.
Gyokeres, 26, has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs including Manchester United and Arsenal among others. However, it doesn’t look as though the high-scoring Swede is likely to move in January.
Arsenal have been looking to add a striker all season long, and they are very keen to sign one in January, should the right opportunity arrise.
New reports have emerged suggesting that the Gunners have eyed up Sporting CP striker and Gyokeres’ teammate Conrad Harder as a transfer target.
Harder, 20, started the season playing for Nordsjaelland in Denmark, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in seven games. However, he then moved to Sporting CP in September to play under now United boss Ruben Amorim.
Since moving to Portugal, he’s made 12 league appearances for Sporting, scoring three goals and contributing two assists.
According to The Boot Room, Arsenal and Chelsea have both emerged as possible suitors for the 19-year-old, who was signed initially to replace Gyokeres due to the risk of a big Premier League move for the Swedish international.
The report states that it could take a bid of around £42m to tempt the Portuguese side to sell Harder so soon after buying him.
Despite the fact that Harder has only been at Sporting for half a season, the young talent has already caught the eye of the Gunners, meaning they could look to line up a bid for him during the summer window, instead of Gyokeres.
Arsenal looking for alternative targets to Gyokeres
As it looks clear that the former Coventry City man isn’t leaving Portugal this month, the Gunners are looking at other targets to try and fill their vacant striker spot.
Recent links have connected Arsenal to Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has also emerged as a target for Manchester United.
Furthermore, the Gunners have also been linked with Atalanta forward Mateo Retegui, who would provide Mikel Arteta with a slightly cheaper alternative to Vlahovic.
