The future of Arsenal striker Chido Obi-Martin is “still open”, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
There have been reports that Bayern Munich are close to snapping up the Denmark Under 17 international. However, writing in his Daily Briefing column, Romano said the forward may yet stay at the Gunners but the “next few days” could prove to be important:
“Despite some talks of Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi Martin now being in advanced negotiations with Bayern Munich, I’m told the situation with Obi-Martin is still open.”
“Bayern and Borussia Dortmund have been showing interest in the talented young striker for months, but Arsenal are still there and still trying to get him to sign a new contract and keep Chido at the club. Let’s see what happens in the next days.”
Why Arsenal fans should be concerned about Obi-Martin’s potential exit
The 16-year-old has been in incredible form over the past year. In the Under 18 Premier League last season, he scored an incredible 32 goals in just 18 appearances.
Obi-Martin’s standout performances led to him being given a couple of runouts for the Under 21s in Premier League 2 as well, despite his young age, making appearances against Brighton back in October and Middlesbrough at the start of this year.
The forward has also impressed at international level
Obi-Martin bagged three goals for Denmark in qualifying for the European Under 17 Championships. He also scored twice at the tournament itself before his country were knocked out by Italy at the semi-final stages earlier this month.
It is not a surprise that Bayern and Borussia Dortmund are so keen on signing the teenager, considering his form for club and country. It remains to be seen, though whether Arsenal can persuade the player to extend his stay at the Emirates.
