19 Year Old Midfielder “Very Close To Leaving Arsenal”

Arsenal midfielder Charlie Patino is on the verge of leaving Arsenal on a permanent basis, according to journalist Chris Wheatley.

Speaking on the National World TV Youtube channel, Wheatley said that teams on the continent had expressed interest in signing the 19-year-old:

“It is our understanding that Charlie Patino is very close to leaving Arsenal. The Hale End academy graduate (a player that fans had big hopes for) doesn’t look like he’s going to be given his opportunity under Mikel Arteta, just because of the number of midfielders the club have. Teams in Spain and Germany have expressed an interest in signing him and he could be very soon on his way out.”

It was reported back in May that Patino had made the decision to leave the Emirates. The teenager had just spent a year at Championship club Blackpool but he wasn’t keen on being loaned out again.

Arsenal will be losing a promising young talent

As Wheatley mentions, Patino is an academy player that many supporters believed possessed the ability to become a regular starter for the first team.

However, despite scoring on his senior debut against Sunderland in the Carabao Cup back in 2021, he has only made one more appearance since then.

Patino has too much competition

It is not hard to see why the midfielder feels that he would be better off leaving in order to get regular football. The Gunners currently have six central midfielders following the arrival of Declan Rice.

While Albert Sambi Lokonga could still be sold as well, the chances of Patino getting past Rice, Thomas Partey and Jorginho for a place in the starting lineup are very slim. With his departure thought to be imminent, fans will be wishing him good luck as he looks to make an impact at another team.
