Arsenal could decide against signing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig due to his hefty wage demands.
The Gunners want to sign a striker this summer, which is seemingly the story of the transfer window at the Emirates. They made a bid to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa in January, but are now prioritising a move to sign Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig.
It is understood that Arsenal are willing to pay the £70m asking price that the German club has placed on the Slovenian international, and that they are in talks with the player over a contract. However, it seems to have reached a stalemate.
According to the Sun, Sesko’s wage demands are very high, and nowhere near the figure that Arsenal have in mind. They say that the Gunners are considering making a U-turn and backing out of a deal to sign Sesko as they are ‘growing frustrated’ with Sesko.
The striker is currently on a wage of £93,500 per week at Leipzig and impressed last season, scoring 21 goals in all competitions.
Who could Arsenal sign instead?
It is understood that as an alternative to Sesko, the Gunners are considering a deal for Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, who was previously their main target earlier in the year.
The Sporting CP star was superb last season, scoring 54 goals in 52 games. Man United are also said to be interested in Gyokeres, however, it has been reported that the Swedish striker is holding out for a move to Arsenal.
Seeing as they are potentially ready to back out of a deal for Sesko, the Gunners could make an approach for Gyokeres as they know that the Swede wants to come to the Emirates. It would be a blow to Sesko if the Gunners do back out, but that threat may not be enough for him to consider lowering his wage demands.
