Arsenal have identified Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo as a target to strengthen their attacking options this month, according to reports.
Bukayo Saka is expected to remain on the sidelines for an extended period, with it being suggested that he may not return to action until April.
Caught Offside claim that will force the Gunners into the market before the transfer window closes and they have identified Semenyo as a potential target.
They label him as the “main alternative to Saka”, stating that he could provide much-needed cover for Arsenal’s No.7.
Bournemouth are reluctant to sell Semenyo
It is believed that the Cherries are keen on holding onto the 25-year-old and they may only consider a sale if a club offers in excess of £50m for their player.
That is not necessarily a fee that would put off the Gunners and, with Semenyo said to be open to leaving the Vitality Stadium, there is a possibility that an approach could be made in January.
Arsenal will have to see off rivals if they want to sign the forward
Caught Offside report that Semenyo is also on Liverpool’s radar (with a potential swap deal with Ben Doak having already been mooted), while Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle may enter the mix as well.
A lot will depend on Mikel Arteta and what position he thinks needs to be strengthened the most. There has been a lot of talk about recruiting an out-and-out No.9 and the manager has said he is sympathetic to those calling on the club to sign such a player.
However, Saka’s injury does complicate matters. The England international has played a lot of football in recent years and taking some of the burden off his shoulders could prove to be very beneficial. For that reason, going after Semenyo may be the better choice.
