‘Huge Upgrade Over Martinelli’ ‘Hard Pass From Me’ Fans React As Arsenal Eye £75M Summer Swoop

Arsenal are leading the race to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, according to reports.

The Sun claim that the Gunners are “currently ahead” of the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool as they look to snap up the England international this summer.

A fee of around £75m to £80m is expected to be enough to land Gordon, but supporters on X are split on whether he would be a good addition to the squad:

Martinelli’s performances are under the spotlight

Manager Mikel Arteta is said to be looking to upgrade his options on the left flank, and Gordon’s arrival would raise doubts about the future of Gabriel Martinelli.

The Brazilian international has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season but he has really struggled to make his mark in the Premier League.

Martinelli has scored just once in 22 appearances, and that goal was the memorable equaliser against Manchester City all the way back in September.

Why do Arsenal want Gordon?

Some will argue that there are better wingers on the market than the Newcastle star, but The Sun report that the move is being spearheaded by Arteta himself.

He is said to be a “long-time admirer” of Gordon, having kept tabs on his progress since he made his first-team breakthrough at Everton.

Whether he is worth the transfer fee being quoted, though, is another matter. It is a transfer story to keep a close eye on over the coming months.
