Journalist Claims Arsenal Are “Strongly Interested” In Signing £50M Rated Midfield Dynamo Ahead Of Spurs

Arsenal are keen on securing the services of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, according to Ignazio Genuardi.

The French journalist says that the Gunners and Tottenham could fight it out for the 22-year-old’s signature:

“In search of reinforcement in the midfield, Arsenal appears strongly interested in the Belgian international Am[adou] Onana. Under contract until June 2027 with Everton, the ex-Lille player – who also appeals to Tottenham and Spain – could be available for around €60m (£50m).”

Onana is known to be a player that Mikel Arteta’s side have scouted in recent months but it remains to be seen if they are willing to shell out a significant fee on the player.

The midfielder would be interested in moving to Arsenal

Speaking about his future earlier this week, Onana says he is hoping to get a transfer to a big club off the back of some strong performances for Belgium at the Euros:

“At previous tournaments, you have seen that the players who did well make the step up to the top clubs. That’s something I strive for.”

“I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.”

Onana is not a priority target

Another journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Gunners have been in contact with the Belgian’s representatives but they have not advanced negotiations any further than that.

At the moment, the club are focused on strengthening other positions. If they were really determined to land a midfielder, you would have thought they would have entered the battle to sign Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, who is a long-term target. However, the Brazilian looks set to make the switch to Juventus instead.

It appears that Onana is a player that Arsenal appreciate but it’s unlikely that he will secure a move to the Emirates this summer.
