Arsenal Face Major Blow In Pursuit Of £115M-Rated Striker Amid Ongoing Contract Talks

Arsenal are unlikely to pursue Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, as the Magpies have set a very high price for the Sweden international.

Isak, 25, has been linked to Arsenal for several months as Mikel Arteta looks to add a striker to his squad in order to improve their Premier League title chances.

The Newcastle striker featured heavily during Arsenal’s recent 2-0 defeat to the Magpies at the Emirates in the Carabao Cup semi-final. He scored one and assisted once, taking his overall goal tally this season to 15 so far.

After the game, there were many calls from Arsenal fans for the club to go after Isak, who was already expected to command a hefty transfer fee, despite the fact that he is yet to sign a contract extension at St James’ Park.

However, according to the Mirror, Newcastle have told Arsenal that they would have to pay at least £115m in order to sign Isak, a club record transfer fee.

The previous record was when they signed midfielder Declan Rice, costing £100m with £5m in add-ons.

The report suggests that the Gunners can’t afford the asking price for Isak, meaning that they would likely have to sell a couple of names before pursuing a move for the Sweden international in the summer transfer window.

How would Isak to Arsenal compare with the most expensive Premier League transfers?

If the Gunners were to sign Isak from Newcastle for their hefty asking price, it would break the record for the most expensive incoming Premier League transfer fee in history.

The signing could prove beneficial to both sides in the end if it does happen in the summer, as Newcastle could invest the £115m in order to sign two or three players to help build their squad closer to title-contention level.

The current record transfer fee in the Premier League belongs to Chelsea, who paid £101.4m for midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Portuguese side Benfica.

Here is the top five most-expensive Premier League transfers if the Isak to North London move was ever to happen in the summer.

Player Name From/To Transfer Fee
Alexander Isak Newcastle to Arsenal £115M
Enzo Fernandez Benfica to Chelsea £101.4M
Jack Grealish Aston Villa to Manchester City £98.5M
Declan Rice West Ham to Arsenal £98M
Moises Caicedo Brighton to Chelsea £97M
