Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has reportedly been told by Newcastle that they are prepared to sell him in the summer transfer window amid interest from Arsenal.
The Gunners have been linked with Isak as they look for a striker who can replace the injured Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
Mikel Arteta had to play the likes of Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino out of position as a striker to make up for their current absentees.
Isak has attracted attention from both Arsenal and La Liga side Barcelona, and could reportedly leave Newcastle should the Magpies fail to finish in a Champions League spot this season.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Isak has a ‘verbal commitment’ from Newcastle which says that they would be prepared to sell him, should they not make the Champions League.
The report also says that the Sweden international will likely demand a transfer should the Magpies not be in Europe’s top competition next season.
He has scored 17 goals in 23 Premier League games for Eddie Howe’s side this season, and has established himself as one of the most prolific goal scorers in European football.
Isak is reportedly a top target for Arsenal and would be their first-choice striker, should they be able to sign him in the summer. However, Newcastle are expected to demand a fee of at least £83m for his signature. Liverpool are also said to be keen on Isak.
Who could Arsenal sign instead of Isak?
If Isak is not for sale during the summer, the Gunners will likely target RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who they have been heavily linked to.
The 21-year-old has scored nine goals in 21 Bundesliga matches this season, and plays as a target man, something that Arsenal are crying out for.
Arsenal did see a bid for Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins rejected in the January transfer window, but they aren’t expected to go back in for him in the summer.
