Former Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant has said that Arsenal should sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
The Gunners are attempting to topple rivals Manchester City yet again this season as they hunt for their first Premier League title since the 2003/04 season.
Over the summer, the Gunners were reportedly keen on adding a goalscorer to their squad as their starting striker was Kai Havertz.
Despite Havertz’s strong start to the season, Jermaine Pennant believes the Gunners should go out and try to sign Isak.
He told SafestCasinoSites: “Is he [Havertz] the answer to Arsenal’s striker problems? At the moment you might say yes, but in the long-term, I’d say Alexander Isak is the solution for the club.
“If Arsenal can sign Isak from Newcastle as their number nine, that would be a perfect fit for all parties – even more so than Havertz. If the club want a long-term project and vision, he’d be an absolutely blinding fit.”
Newcastle set hefty price tag on Alexander Isak
Over the summer there was a lot of reported interest in Isak from Arsenal for a start, however, the Gunners decided mot to pursue a move for the Swedish international.
Premier League rivals Chelsea also expressed interest in the Newcastle United man, however it could well have been the price tag that put both Arsenal and Chelsea off him.
According to a report by the Guardian in the summer, Newcastle set a price in excess of £100 million to deter the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal from pursuing the striker.
However, despite Isak’s contract at Newcastle lasting until June 2028, reports have emerged that Isak may refuse to sign a new contract at St James’ Park meaning the Magpies could be forced to sell him in the summer.
Do Arsenal need to sign a striker?
The debate over whether Alexander Isak’s price tag is fair begs another question for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal and that is, do they need him?
So far this season, Kai Havertz has been the starting striker for the Gunners and has scored in all four games at the Emirates Stadium.
The German international has 20 goals since joining the Gunners in the summer of 2023 having made 61 appearances in all competitions.
Combine that with the fact that this season, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard have combined for four goals this season do, do they actually need a new striker.
It is a debate that will roll on into the January transfer window, but signing someone like Isak certainly wouldn’t hurt Arsenal’s title chances.
