Former Arsenal defender William Gallas has urged the Gunners manager Mikel Arteta to sign a striker in January.
The Gunners are currently second in the Premier League table, just six points behind league leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.
However, they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United, and their hopes in the Carabao Cup hang by a thread due to a 2-0 first leg defeat to Newcastle.
Arsenal have all but confirmed their first January signing, as Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is set to sign, however, he won’t join until the summer.
Former Gunners centre-back Gallas says that he thinks it’s obvious that the club should sign a striker, especially following the injury to Gabriel Jesus.
He told Prime Casino: “At Arsenal, it’s been the same problem for years. They are missing a world-class striker! We’ve been talking about it for years!
“When you look at the chances they are missing the answer is obvious. Not having a killer has cost Arsenal too much this season. Out of the FA Cup in a game they dominated, hanging by a thread in the League Cup and dropping points in the Premier League.
“It’s not a good look for the Gunners when they keep missing so many chances.”
Arsenal linked to several world-class strikers
Amid Gallas’ plea to sign a striker, Arteta has been linked to a number of top strikers in the media, however, he is yet to sign any of them.
Newcastle United star Alexander Isak has been linked for weeks now, however, the Magpies set a £115m price tag on him, meaning that they won’t be able to afford him in January.
Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic has also been linked to the Gunners, however, many Arsenal fans are unconvinced as to whether he will be able to perform in the Premier League.
Finally, they could take a gamble on Manchester United and former England star Marcus Rashford, although ex-Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that this would be the wrong move.
