Arsenal should stop their deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres and instead go after Newcastle star Alexander Isak.
The Gunners’ biggest priority this summer was to sign a striker, and it seems that they have finally added a number nine. Reports have said that a deal for Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP is all done, and the player will now have to undergo a medical.
It is understood that Arsenal have agreed to pay around £64m to sign the Swedish international, who was one of the best number nines in the world last year. He scored 54 goals in 52 matches, and is now hoping to stamp his mark on the Premier League.
However, Gyokeres has never played in one of Europe’s top five leagues, and so does come with some element of risk, leading many to believe that he could be a candidate to flop in the Premier League.
Arsenal should sign Isak instead
Amid the current transfer market in the Premier League, one huge story is developing, and it comes in the form of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. The Swedish international has, according to Sky Sports, told Newcastle that he wants to explore a move away.
There has been very strong reported interest from Liverpool, however, the Reds recently signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, as they decided to cool their interest in Isak.
Isak was previously Arsenal’s ‘dream’ striker target. It seemed for all intents and purposes that if he was to leave Liverpool it would be to the Emirates, but after the Magpies set a £150m price tag on him, the Gunners went after other targets.
But, if Liverpool were to land Isak, it could ruin Arsenal’s chances of a Premier League title for several years, as they would have an attack with not only the Newcastle striker, but also Florian Wirtz, Mo Salah, Cody Gakpo and more.
Arsenal should drop everything and persuade Isak to come to the Emirates instead, and only then, should they cancel the move for Gyokeres. There is no doubting that Isak is arguably the best striker in the world, and the combination of Arsenal signing him and Liverpool not doing would significantly boost the Gunners’ Premier League title hopes.
