Arsenal have received a bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale who fell out of favour with Mikel Arteta last season.
The former Sheffield United man has been David Raya’s backup at the Emirates and was always ready to leave Arsenal this summer, but nothing came up.
However, according to The Standard, Wolves have offered Arsenal a loan bid for Ramsdale with the option to buy at the end of the season.
This would suit both teams as Wolves would pay almost all of Ramsdale’s wages but would get the chance to weigh up whether they want the 26-year-old permanently or not.
Furthermore, any deal could become a swap due to Arsenal’s ongoing interest in Wolves keeper Dan Bentley as a backup to Raya. According to the BBC, the Gunners had a £500,00 bid rejected for Bentley last month.
Ramsdale still has two years left on his contract at the Emirates and would expect to have made a permanent move before it expires in 2026.
Premier League rivals are also interested in Ramsdale
Wolves aren’t the only top-flight team interested in the England international as Bournemouth are also keen on his signature.
However, the Cherries are yet to make a concrete offer for Ramsdale and have said that they would want him on loan and would not currently pursue a permanent deal.
There were reports of Bournemouth being keen on Valencia goalkeeper Giorgo Mamardashvilli if he was to join Liverpool. The Cherries would sign him on loan whilst Alisson was still the first choice at Anfield.
Arsenal want a backup for David Raya
The Gunners accept the likelihood that Aaron Ramsdale will move on before transfer deadline day as they have looked at other options as a backup for David Raya.
As mentioned, Mikel Arteta’s side is keen on Wolves backup Dan Bentley who the Midlands-based side is reluctant to sell as they would have to source a replacement making a swap deal even more suitable.
Arsenal has also identified Espanyol keeper Joan Garcia as a replacement for Ramsdale, they have already agreed to personal terms this summer.
