REPORT: Arsenal In Transfer Pursuit Of 21-Year-Old Premier League Midfielder

Arsenal have been linked with a move for 21-year-old Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, according to a report from the Daily Mirror.

Onana is reportedly unhappy at the Toffees – as such, he is looking to secure a move away from Goodison Park for himself in the ongoing summer transfer window.

WIth Granit Xhaka having left the club and the fact that Thomas Partey could follow him through the exit door, the Gunners are currently looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Who else, besides Arsenal, are interested in a move for Amadou Onana?

The Gunners are not the only ones who are thought to be interested in a move for Onana – an article from LiverpoolWorld suggests that Chelsea are also in the hunt for the player.

Due to this, Arsenal cannot afford to wait if they are serious about bringing Onana to the club. They were beaten to the punch by Chelsea back in the January transfer window, when the Blues swooped in to sign Mykhailo Mudryk from underneath Arsenal’s nose.

Amadou Onana football career summary so far

Born in 2001 in his native Senegal, Onana began his footballing career in the youth academy of Anderlecht. Following this, he enjoyed spells with RWS Bruxelles and Zulte Waregem before moving to Hoffenheim in 2017.

He swiftly progressed through the ranks at Hoffenheim, but only made one senior appearance for the club before moving to Hamburg in 2020. Here, he began to catch the attention of clubs across Europe – his limitless energy and fearsome tackling abilities were seen as his greatest attributes.

He spent just one season at Hamburg before he made the jump to Ligue 1 with LOSC Lille. He went on to make 32 appearances for La Machine de Guerre before he was snapped up by Everton in 2022 for a reported fee of £33 million (including add-ons).

Everton had a tough season in 2022/23, as they narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship on the final day of the campaign. Despite this, Onana was frequently touted as one of their best players and was a key reason for the Toffees ultimately avoiding the drop.
