Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre has told the Gunners to be “wary” of signing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.
The Gunners are yet to make a signing this summer, but they are expected to add a central midfielder, a striker and a winger to their ranks at least.
Benjamin Sesko has emerged as the main striker target, but there are reports still linking the Gunners to Viktor Gyokeres. Meanwhile, a deal for Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad seems close as Arteta wants to add in midfield too.
Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams is one of the wide players that the Gunners are targeting this summer. He has a £48m release clause in his contract, and has also been linked previously to rivals Chelsea and Barcelona.
Arsenal told not to sign Williams
Former Gunner Mikael Silvestre believes that it would be a mistake for Arsenal to spend big on a winger this summer, considering the fact that they already have the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli to start.
He told Esports Insider: “I’d be wary of bringing in too many wingers like Nico Williams through the door. You need to give Ethan Nwaneri some game time; they have Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli already.
“I don’t see why they’d want to bring another winger unless one of those players want to leave or if the club are planning to break the bank on a world-class wide player. It would surprise me if the club spent heavily on a striker and a winger in the same window.”
Williams isn’t the only winger that has been linked with a move to the Emirates, as Arsenal have also been linked with Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who is expected to cost around £20m more than the Bilbao star.
