Arsenal To Snatch PSG Striker?

The French striker has fallen down the pecking order in the PSG attack following the big money arrivals of Argentine international Ezequiel Lavezzi and Swedish sensation Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Gamiero has found his place on the bench more often than not this season, and a lack of game time has upset him of late.

Gameiro has had a great run in the French league with PSG prior to the duo’s arrival, and is now keen to resurrect his slowly stagnating career by making a move. There are recent reports suggested by French daily Le Parisien saying that the 25-year old could be heading towards the exit door in the summer and make a move to another club in search of regular playing time.

He is being linked to English outfit Arsenal, as a move to the Emirates Stadium is being touted for Gameiro. Arsenal are believed to be interested in signing a top quality striker in the summer, after new arrival Olivier Giroud has not really reached the mark expected of him. He was bought from PSG’s rivals and current French champions Montpellier to replace their Dutch captain Robin van Persie, who opted to join Manchester United. Even though Giroud has had a good season statistically, not many are convinced that he is good enough to be van Persie’s long-term replacement as Arsenal’s No. 1 striker.

There have been calls for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to sign a world class striker in the summer. The Gunners have also recently reported a massive cash reserve of £123 million, and an excess of £70 million available for them to sign new players. The new cash has resulted in several rumors emerging about Arsenal’s interest in top strikers across Europe.

There was reported interest from Arsenal in Barcelona’s Spanish international David Villa in January, however the Catalans refused to sell their striker in the middle of the season. Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Napoli’s star striker Edinson Cavani, and were rumored to be preparing a bid for him in January as well. But none of the deals materialized as Arsenal chose to keep faith in Giroud, German Lukas Podolski and English international Theo Walcott in the goal scoring department.

There has also been some reported interest from Arsenal in German champions Borussia Dortmund’s striking sensation, Robert Lewandowski. The Polish international is set to quit Dortmund at the end of the season, and Arsenal are believed to be interested in him. These rumor mills have now started circulating the story about Kevin Gameiro as a possible new face at the Emirates. Given the striker’s unhappiness with his current role at PSG, and the fact that Arsenal has been a haven for French players over the past several years, could Arsenal make a move for Gameiro in the summer in a bid to rescue him from his current plight, and in turn, bolster their attack in their quest for silverware next season?
