The 22 year old William Carvalho who is currently under contract with Sporting until 2018 has been on Arsenal’s radar for at least one year. He even looked like the key transfer everyone was waiting for Wenger to make. Negotiations were dropped as the Portuguese club asked for a lot of money which may not been justified at the time. According to TalkSport though, Arsenal are willing to give it another try and make a new offer for Carvalho. This time the deal will include Joel Campbell who might just become the key element in bringing Sporting’s defensive midfielder to the Emirates.

Carvalho, who despite being so young, has become one of Sporting’s most experienced and reliable players, could be allowed to leave as the Portuguese side are looking to strengthen their attack. Even though they are third in the League, their most prolific striker is 7^th in the standings with almost half the numbers Jackson Martinez has. Defensive wise they are doing pretty good and a swap that could increase their fire power is definitely on the table. Arsenal will have to consider paying around £22m for the Portuguese midfielder which is not that exaggerated if you consider Joel Campbell’s drop in form over the last few months. It is a difficult decision to make as the Costa Rican could be included in other deals that could lower the price for a left winger or a striker who currently look a lot more in demand at the Emirates than a defensive midfielder to battle it out with Coquelin.
