Arsenal To Rival Dortmund Over Belgian Sensation?

The 20-year old Michy Batshuayi is currently playing for Belgian outfit Standard Liege where he has scored 14 goals in 21 games already this season. He is regarded highly amongst scouts from across the continent, who are all aware of his potential and many clubs have scouted him on multiple occasions.

However, the club which has been closely linked to him is Borussia Dortmund. The UEFA Champions League runners-up are on the lookout for a striker, following the confirmation of Robert Lewandowski’s transfer to Bayern Munich in the summer. Batshuayi is being viewed as a possible replacement.

Arsenal have now entered the fray as well, as Arsene Wenger desperately hunts for a striker to solve the mini-crisis he finds himself in. He is on the immediate lookout for a front man to help in the face of the long-term absences of Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott. Arsenal too have been receiving some glowing reports about Batshuayi, and Wenger is set to challenge Dortmund for his signature, as ESPNFC report.

The youngster has himself spoken highly of the two clubs while openly stating that he will be on the move in the near future. He said, “I am ready for the next big step, and I don’t think I’ll be playing in Belgium next season,”

“I’ve got two favourite clubs in Europe — Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund. Borussia have got the right mix of quality and team spirit, and Arsenal hand chances to young and gifted players.”

It will be interesting to see where the youngster ends up and if Wenger can swing a deal during this window.
