Arsenal To Retry Bid For Suarez

According to a report in Metro, Arsenal have not given up their chase for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, and will make an attempt to sign the Uruguayan in the next transfer window in January, to add striking depth to their improving squad.

Arsene Wenger had been initially conservative in his approach of the recently concluded transfer market, and the last few hours before the window shut saw teams trying to get last minute deals over the line. With the increasing amount of paperwork due to introduction of new concepts like image rights, payment to multiple agents, and third party ownership, the process of securing a transfer on deadline day becomes hectic for every club. However, teams wait till the deadline day arrives to make a bid, so as to have the opposition team balk at the pressure of time and transfer fee. If a club wants to sell a player, they will try to get the best price possible, but a bid on the final day gives no room for negotiation, leaving no room for improvement. But Arsenal fans were set for a surprise, as the club sealed a deal with Real Madrid for the transfer of German international Mesut Ozil. The fee was agreed in the region of £43 million, nearly hitting the British transfer record for the highest paid transfer.

Suarez was himself initially linked with a move to Madrid earlier in the window, but with Liverpool firm about their stance to keep the highly rated striker, Madrid moved on. Madrid President Florentino Perez has big ambitions for the club, and will be making an attempt to sign Suarez in January. However, with the arrival of Gareth Bale to Madrid in the world record £85 million transfer, a move for Suarez will only happen if Cristiano Ronaldo does not gel with Bale in the squad.

The Gunners will be happy with the form of Olivier Giroud, who misfired a little last season, but has recovered his form this season. Suarez’s addition will only help Giroud’s form, as the Uruguayan is capable of linking up play in attack.
